“YOLO

While I love what YOLO should stand for, I hate what it does stand for. For those of you who do not know, YOLO is a popular initialism among teens and young adults these days, and stands for “you only live once.”

While this is a wonderful way to think about life, but it is being perverted by peer pressure — “Take another shot, YOLO”.

That is not living life, that is letting others live their life through you. In that moment, you chose to let someone else steal that moment from you. To have someone steal that part of you for themselves, you are not living your life; you are allowing someone to live a second life through your actions. With that action you become a puppet to their will, and forsake part of the life you only live once.

I propose an addendum, “YOLOSLFY” — “You only live once, so live for yourself.” Sure, it’s not as short but I hope more people use it in the future.

I salute you. My feelings exactly.

“I like drinking coffee alone and reading alone. I like riding the bus alone and walking home alone. It gives me time to think and set my mind free. I like eating alone and listening to music alone. June 1st

There are times where
I would caress poorly
developed Polaroids
and pray to God that
you are alright. That you are not
above the clouds;
dancing amongst angels,
but on this earth,
underneath the same sky.

…Which is ironic,
because before I met you,
I rarely did go to church.

Perhaps, my tragedy is that
I am a lover of broken people.
And that the child in me
has never learned the life-lesson of
leaving behind broken glass
instead of trying to mend it back
together.

And piece by piece,
I picked up the shards of your
crushed heart
ignoring every cut and wound
you have made on my
trembling fingers, foolishly
picking them up by hand
instead of reaching for
the dust-worn broom.

…Though my tragedy is
I could never fix
whatever was beating inside you.

And I digress,
I keep photo booth strips
and reminisce about
summer painted sidewalks
and winter fresh wind
because this is
how I keep you alive
and not forgotten.

And shedding tears every time
it rains is how I say I love you,
without saying any words.

midnight musings

It is ten o’clock, Sunday morning
Under covers, pretending to be asleep
Laying in bed as if time
doesn’t matter
Though it is times like these where
I feel broodingly
lonely,
isolated,
empty
because when I look to my right
you are there
mountain and valley folds of linen
away
entangling yourself 
more into the bed sheets
than you are with me.

It’s more of 2 AM musings. But you know the video “please say something”? There’s a scene where the cat and mouse are just lying in bed staring at each other. I wonder what was going through their minds.
